Northwood in gritty T20 win over Glenwood

Glenwood High put a scare into Northwood when the schools clashed in a low-scoring T20 match on Wednesday in Durban.

Kamo Moloto threatened to bat the Green Machine to victory, but, with the target in sight, Glenwood collapsed, and the Knights claimed a tight 11-run win.

Sent in to bat, Northwood reached 20 but lost both openers on the same total. Sam Minnetti and Luc Boyall then added 34 for the third wicket, which turned out to be their team’s best partnership.

Boyall shared the innings’ top score of 24 with Josh Mills. Boyall’s runs came off 27 balls and included three fours, while Mills took just 20 deliveries and struck two fours.

Bayanda Xulu caused Northwood problems, knocking over 3/13 in three overs, and the other five bowlers picked up a wicket each as the Knights battled their way to 119/8.

Glenwood lost Akhiel Sinath early in their reply. They rebounded quickly, however, with Sebastian Oertel and Kamo Moloto adding 47 from 48 balls for the second wicket before Oertel was caught by Luc Boyall off Cameron White‘s bowling for 13.

Mishael Gunawardana made nine but was out at the start of the 12th over, leaving Glenwood on 63/3. Moloto continued, however, advancing the total to 81 before he fell, out for the match’s highest score of 51. He had faced only 43 balls and struck six fours and a six.

Unfortunately for Glenwood, they lost Qhamani Sikutshwa two balls later, leaving the Green Machine on 82/5 in the 14th over and the match in the balance.

Jonah Chaita contributed a run-a-ball 12 and added 16 with Esihle Gasa before Chaita fell to Oli Anderson. That was the beginning of the end. Only 10 runs and two overs later, Glenwood had lost four more wickets, plunging to 108 all out after 19.5 overs, and leaving Northwood with a hard-fought win.

Keegan Reeves claimed two of the last four wickets to fall, finishing with 2/24. He was one of four Northwood bowlers to pick up two sticks.

Hamza Amla spun his way to 2/15 from four overs, while Oli Anderson returned 2/8 in two, and Josh Mills bagged 2/19 in 2.5.

Nick Slater claimed the crucial wicket of Kamo Moloto, picking up 1/11 in one, and Cameron White kept Glenwood under pressure with his 1/20 from four overs.

Summarised Scorecard:

Northwood 119/8 (Josh Mills 24, Luc Boyall 24; Bayanda Xulu 3/13); Glenwood High 108/10 (Kamo Moloto 51; Oli Anderson 2/8, Hamza Amla 2/15, Josh Mills 2/19, Keegan Reeves 2/24). Northwood won by 11 runs.
