SuperSport Schools News | Multiple contenders lined up for Lilyfontein Sevens titles

The Clover High School Sevens Series heads to the Eastern Cape’s Border region this weekend, with the Lilyfontein Sevens being hosted on Saturday.

A new champion will be crowned in the U17 section, with Cambridge High not defending the title. There are, however, many potential title contenders, including Dale College, Queen’s College, and Hudson Park High. All three enjoyed strong seasons in the 15-man game.

Dale didn’t contest the Lilyfontein Sevens last season, but, given the way they play a skilful running game, they appear to have the ideal tools to excel in Sevens.

Might Port Rex be a dark horse? Last season, they went down to Cambridge by two points in the final.

Graeme College isn’t part of the U17 competition again, but they are the defending champions in the U15 section.

Last year, they dominated the event, conceding only one try on their way to the title. Again, Dale, Queen’s, and Hudson Park look like their likeliest challengers.

Last year, Hudson made it to the final, fighting hard, before going down to a 0-12 defeat.
