Hoërskool Hugenote’s Faizel Fortuin was unfortunate to miss out on a half-century in a 20-over clash against Hoërskool Strand on Tuesday.

The opener looked comfortable at the crease, hitting two fours and a six in an impressive 44 off 50 balls.

He received strong support from Zeeque Adams, who struck an aggressive 37 off 26 balls, with three fours and two sixes, in a 54-run third-wicket partnership.

Bevan Botha stood out for the Eagles, returning a tidy 1/15 from four overs, but it was not enough to stop the Wellington locals from winning the game by seven wickets in the 19th over, when they reached 116/3.

Earlier, Strand had struggled, clawing their way to 115 all out from 19.5 overs.

Batting at nine, tail-ender Gustav du Plessis top-scored for the hosts, and was not out for a run-a-ball 32, which included three fours and a six.

Hugenote’s Carlyle Ockhuis damaged Strand’s batting effort by capturing 4/21, while Elridge Ockers was also pretty tough to deal with, collecting 3/15. Marco April chipped in with 2/30.

In the Boland region of the rain Schools SA20, Paarl Gimnasium powered to an eight-wicket win over De Villiers Graaff High on Monday.

The visitors won the toss and decided to bat first, but found themselves under pressure throughout their innings.

Nathan Kees and Zaid Amsterdam, batting at four and five, were the only visiting batsmen to make it beyond the teens, with Kees top-scoring with 24 off 27 balls, while Amsterdam was 20 not out off 27.

Wian Venter led the Gimmies‘ attack, returning 2/11 from three overs as De Villiers Graaff’s 20 overs ended with the visitors on 93/5.

At the top of the order, Enré van Zyl directed Paarl Gim’s reply, hitting three fours in an undefeated 33 from 31 balls.

Paul Schoeman entertained with two sixes and two fours in a rapid 30 off 17, and the pair mustered a 43-run second-wicket stand to help power the home side to 94/2 in the 13th over.

Zaid Amsterdam was the only wicket-taker for the visitors, claiming 1/15.
