Hilton College enjoyed an emphatic 10-wicket win over the Sweetwaters Hub XI in a rain Schools SA20 match played on the Hart-Davis Oval in Hilton on Thursday.
While the toss favoured the home side, Sweetwaters made a steady if somewhat inhibited start, with Khethelo Mkhize and Kwanele Madlala sharing an opening stand of 39 in 10.2 overs. It came to an end when Aiden Chubb stumped Mkhize of the bowling of Sean Burman for a conservative 13 off 30 balls.
Unfortunately for the Hub, apart from Madlala, no other batsmen reached double figures. Madlala, however, played the anchor role and was unbeaten on 47 from 54 deliveries when his team’s 20 overs were up.
His innings had included four fours. The other batsmen hit only two between them. However, 15 extras helped to boost the Sweetwater side’s total to 93/6.
Ross Hill was the primary cause for the Hub’s faltering progress. He snapped up 3/7 in four tidy overs, while Cameron Hargroves produced a neat spell, too, picking up 2/18 in four.

In response, Ben Wilson and Guy Fyvie needed only 7.4 overs to overhaul the Hub’s 93 runs.
Wilson, who faced the first ball, whacked two sixes and four fours in his unbeaten 43 from only 21 deliveries, while Fyvie cracked six fours and six in his undefeated 48 off 25 as Hilton cruised to a consummate victory.
The Hub’s bowlers came in for stick, but Kwanele Madlala kept matters in check somewhat, conceding 14 runs from his two overs.
Summarised scorecard:
Sweetwaters Hub 93/6 (Kwanale Madlala 47*, Khethelo Mkhize 13; Ross Hill 3/7, Cameron Hargroves 2/18); Hilton College 94/0 after 7.4 overs (Guy Fyvie 48*, Ben Wilson 43*). Hilton College won by 10 wickets.
