Goudveld trudges past St Dominic’s in rain Schools SA20 clash

Hoërskool Goudveld visited St Dominic’s College on Thursday for a Welkom derby in the rain Schools SA20 competition.

After the hosts won the toss and chose to bat, opener Remoratile Mokeona compiled a patient 21 runs off 42 balls before Vian Boardman bowled both opening batsmen.

The Goudveld bowler ended up nabbing 3/23 from four overs, while later in the St Dominic’s innings, Qenehelo Tsoenyane grabbed 4/22, also from four overs.

Batting at four, Lathi Role top-scored for St Dominic’s with three fours in his 26 off 19, but the home side mustered only 99, losing their last wicket off the final ball of their 20 overs.

Needing only 100 to win at five runs per over, Boardman, batting at four, led the way for the visitors, stroking four fours in the innings’ top score of 24 off 30 balls.

St Dominic’s did themselves no favours, however, with 25 extras, of which 13 were wides, adding even more to Gouties‘ total. It was slow going, but the visitors made it across the line with five balls to spare, reaching 101/6 to win by four wickets.

Siwe Tole troubled the Goudveld batsmen, picking up 2/15 from four overs, while Tafari Khoabane claimed 2/27.

Lathi Tole took 1/23 and ran out Goudveld opener Waldo van der Westhuizen before he could settle in at the crease.

Summarised Scorecard:

St Dominic’s College 99/10 (Lathi Tole 26, Remoratile Mokeona 21; Qenehelo Tsoenyane 4/22, Vian Boardman 3/23). Hoërskool Goudveld 101/6 (Extras 25, Vian Boardman 24; Siwe Tole 2/15, Tafari Khoabane 2/27). Goudveld won by four wickets.
