CJ du Toit blasted an unbeaten half-century before Ewald Ackerman snared a five-wicket haul to help Hoërskool Bastion register a comfortable 96-run win over Kings College in their rain Schools SA20 match at Kiewietpark at Bastion on Monday afternoon.
Bastion, in their third season participating in the Schools SA20 competition, is on the rise; they achieved their best result yet in the B Section of the Johnny Waite T20 competition, finishing second
Eight games into the 2026/27 season, they’ve lost only twice.
When the toss went their way, they chose to bat first against Kings College, marching to 163/6 in their 20 overs before bundling out the visitors for only 67 in 16.1 overs.
Du Toit led the way with an unbeaten 64 from 40 balls.

The top-order batsman was selected for the Central Gauteng Lions Invitational side for the St David’s Marist Inanda Fasken Time Cricket Festival tournament. Unfortunately, he sustained an injury at a practice session just before the first match and was out of action for six weeks.
Against Kings College, though, he showed why the Lions’ selectors had picked him by carting the Kings College bowlers all over the field in his first match back. In an entertaining but controlled knock, he struck three fours and seven sixes.
He and Bastion captain, Ewald Ackerman, shared an outstanding 86-run fourth-wicket partnership, with Ackerman contributing 45 runs from 31 balls in a stand that lasted just over seven overs.
After delivering with the bat, Ackerman picked up the ball and ran through Kings College’s middle and lower order.
He was well nigh unplayable, finishing with 5/6 from four overs. Thato Nkabinde and Brayden Potgieter chipped in with two wickets apiece, while Henk Nolan removed one batsman.
The match marked Kings College’s debut in the Schools SA20 competition. Despite being overwhelmed by Bastion, the men from Bryanston have been making progress in the sport. They entered the contest on the back of victories over Crawford Lonehill and HeronBridge College. Bastion was, however, a bridge too far.
With a young team, featuring many Grade 9 learners, Kings College will take lessons from the loss. Bastion, meanwhile, will aim to build further momentum off their victory.
