Durban High School (DHS) scored a statement 10-wicket victory over Hilton College on Wednesday evening in the One Insurance Eston T20 Night League at the Beaumont Eston Farmers Club, with the experienced duo of Ismaeel Omar and Josh van Biljon steering the Horseflies to the win.
They combined for an unbroken stand of 115 runs in 15 overs, with DHS skipper, Van Biljon, after an underwhelming few games by his high standards, breaking out by cracking 10 fours in his unbeaten 64 off 50 deliveries.
Omar, meanwhile, played a calculated knock of 42 off 44 balls, sending five of them to the boundary.
Earlier, Hilton had chosen to bat after the toss favoured them, but they quickly found themselves deep in the mire, with Taine Havermann removing the opening pair of Barack Munawa and Ben Wilson for ducks. The duo has often laid the foundation for Hilton victories, but their early departures were a hammer blow for captain Robert Burman and his side.
Burman, batting at three, stood firm, though, sending three balls to the boundary in the innings’ top score of 39 from 43 balls. He and James Peattie added 42 for the fourth wicket before the skipper departed, caught by Seth Edwards off Rameez Asmal.
Peattie went on to tally 27 off 33 before he, too, became a victim of Asmal.
Ryan Jellis and Sanqe Qangule added 16 apiece, with Qangule not out, as Hilton totalled 114/6.
Havermann was superb with the new ball, knocking over 2/13 in four, while Asmal captured 2/21 in three. Josh Morley bowled his usual tidy spell, claiming 1/19 in four overs as DHS produced an outstanding performance and eye-opening victory.
