Bishops maintained their unbeaten run at home this season with an impressive and hard-fought 3-2 win over South African College High School (SACS) in Cape Town on Friday.
Bishops, who have come off second best against their southern suburbs’ opponents in recent seasons, had to dig deep and scored the winner in the fourth chukka.
They were without talisman Callum Anderson, who’s on SA U17 duty in Zimbabwe, while SACS was also missing a handful of their first-choice players.
Bishops opened the scoring in the first chukka through Luc Dicey, but SACS hit back with two goals, scored by Troy Loots and Matthew Lassen.
The hosts had answers for their visitors, and Troy Stockdale got on the end of a well-executed PC before Fynn Cullis sealed the win.
“We had a lot of internal pressure but also something to play for,” Bishops’ coach Ryan Julius told SuperSport Schools News.
“We’ve been unbeaten at home this year, and for us, we were trying to ensure that we remain unbeaten at Woodlands.
“I’m incredibly proud of my boys. The defence we showed was amazing, and our PC defence was remarkable.
“A special mention goes out to Waseem Dalwai and his short-corner defensive team. I think we absorbed about four or five short corners that were kept out.”
Friday’s meeting was the third between the sides in 2026. In their first match in April, SACS won 4-2 before beating their rivals 3-1 in the quarterfinals of the Hibbert Shield in Gqeberha a month later.
“I know the late Cassa [Cassiem] would’ve been proud of the boys’ performance and their grit and perseverance,” Julius said. “It was a game of good tactics, and it’s awesome to measure up against Sam Holmes and his force.”
Bishops takes on Rondebosch Boys’ High next week at the Western Province Cricket Club in their final match of the season.
Speaking of ‘Bosch, they were held to a 2-2 draw by Wynberg Boys’ High, also on Friday.
Daniel Fisher scored both goals for Rondebosch in his 50th appearance for the 1st XI.
SACS signs off on the 2026 season with a clash against Wynberg at the Brewery AstroTurf.
